Vinyasa yoga is a dynamic style of yoga characterized by flowing sequences of movements that connect each pose to the next, often synchronized with the breath. It's known as "flow yoga" and involves moving from one pose to the next seamlessly. Vinyasa classes can vary in intensity and complexity, but generally involve a variety of postures and transitions, and no two classes are exactly alike.
Emily has training in Wave Theory and Classical Vinyasa teachings.
Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga are both slow, meditative styles that emphasize stillness and inner awareness, but they differ in intention and technique. Yin Yoga works with the deep connective tissues—ligaments, joints, and fascia—by holding passive poses for several minutes, applying gentle stress to improve flexibility and joint mobility. It encourages a mindful exploration of physical sensation and emotional stillness.
Restorative Yoga, on the other hand, is centered on deep relaxation and healing. Poses are fully supported with props and held for extended periods without effort or stretch, allowing the nervous system to reset and the body to fully rest. While Yin aims to gently challenge the body, Restorative is about total ease and comfort.
Hatha Yoga is a traditional style that forms the foundation of many modern yoga practices. It emphasizes the balance between the body and mind through a combination of physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), and meditation. Hatha Yoga is typically slower-paced, making it accessible to practitioners of all levels. This practice encourages a mindful approach to movement and breath, allowing for a deeper connection between the body and mind. Hatha Yoga offers numerous benefits, including increased flexibility, strength, and balance. The emphasis on breath control helps reduce stress and improve respiratory function, while the meditative aspects foster mental clarity and focus. By harmonizing physical effort with relaxation, Hatha Yoga promotes overall well-being, making it a holistic approach to health and balance.
